I planted this vineyard as a tribute to my mom and dad, Irma and Fiorello in their hometown of Fagagna in Friuli, Italy.
Picolit’s history goes back to the 1700’s when it was made exclusively for Kings, Czars and Popes. The vine is very low yielding and the grapes are dried by “appassimento”, producing a very limited quantity of luscious sweet wine….my specialty. There were only 800 bottles of this rare and unique wine produced in total and 200 are available through Vintages. For the entire story go to www.ziraldo.ca
TASTING NOTE:
Honeycomb, praline, peanut brittle, dried apricot, dried mango and camomile tea, and that's just the nose! Sweet, satisfying, layered and complex, with a finish that is gorgeous, sweet, fruity, and loooong. This may cause you to change your after-dinner plans too! Enjoy with roasted nuts, biscotti, blue cheese, or conversation, or any combination thereof.
